The doors to the Restarter lodge editing service are now open!
Welcome to Restarter Lodge Editing!
As a creator myself, I understand the pressure that comes with launching a project. You’ve read your work a hundred times, and you’re certain you’ve caught every error, and every blip, right?
The trouble is, when you’re so close to your work, your amazing mind has an incredible gift that’s also a curse; it can fill in the blanks immediately, deciphering your text and seeing what should be there, but not always what’s actually there.
That’s why hiring an editor can be essential in making your work truly sing.
But sometimes you have a deadline, and usually that deadline is far closer than you’d like it to be. With that in mind, I focus on accelerated turnaround with assured deadlines at competitive prices and only accept submissions if those deadlines can be met, so you'll never have to worry about delays.

***COMING SOON***Full manuscript formatting services, ensuring your document meets current publishing standards. Ideal for new authors, or authors looking for a break from doing the heavy lifting.
***COMING SOON*** Blurb creation/assistance. Creating a short description of your book should be simple, shouldn’t it? But for most that have tried, creating a blurb intended to make people want to buy it or see your work can be a gruelling process. Get it right, and it’s pure magic. Which is why it’s so easy to get wrong. If you’re struggling, I’ve got you - no pun intended - covered.
What sets Restarter Lodge Editing apart from other editors?
My process is notably old-school, but for good reason. Reviewing digital text on a screen or tablet is great, and works for many, but after eight years improving my craft in storytelling and content creation, I find printing the text - be it a manuscript for a novel or novella, all the way to a blog post or article - gives the content space to breathe and for the text to be viewed as it is, rather than how the brain wants it to be.
That is to say, I review the technical components as a writer, then run it through the most important filter of all; that of the reader.
Make no mistake, this is a hands-on edit, with no letter/stone left unturned. I care about every project as if it were my own and want it to succeed just as much as anything I launch myself.
How I work:
With in house printing and at no extra cost, the first step is to print your work. Once I have a physical copy in my hands, I then begin the first edit.
Once this is complete, I provide the option for a one-on-one videocall, giving us both the opportunity to run through the project page by page.
This allows me to bridge the gap on context I may not be aware of, or design choices that are personal to the writer/creator that don’t necessarily conform to traditional writing rules.
(Think colloquial slang, cultural terminology, or perhaps subtle foreshadowing hidden within the intentional misspelling of the name of your amazing super spaceship.)
Following this conversation, I then implement the edits.
I then create two documents;
One with the changes I’ve made in red for you to review, and a second document with the changes completely merged with unified colouring and formatting that’s good to go straight out of the digital (in)box.
You will then receive a detailed invoice with instructions on how to make payment should you require it for end-of-year taxes, which includes a full breakdown of the services provided.
Once payment is received, the documents will be sent to you immediately.
Why choose Restarter Lodge Editing?
With seven years editing experience and counting, you can be confident that you’re in good hands, rather than being in your good hands. But you need to be sure, and you can never be too sure. So, with that comma in the right place, here are some stats for piece of mind that may bring peace to your mind.
My Portfolio:
Over ONE MILLION words reviewed and edited to date! And that’s not being hyperbolic. Including eight novels, novellas, multiple blog and social media content posts, website pages, and articles.
In-house manuscript/document printing services at NO extra cost.
Full communication from beginning to end for your project.
Face to face videocall meetings (or phone calls if that’s your bag) as required for the duration of your project.
Transparent costs, NO hidden fees, NO surprises.
Deadline focused mindset with an accelerated turnaround. Your project will be the sole focus of an intensive edit. That means NO new projects will begin whilst your work is in progress.
What happens to my printed work?
When it comes to confidentiality, I know discretion is important. Which is why once the work is complete, you can have full piece of mind that your printed manuscript will be shredded, destroyed, and disposed of professionally. Or, if you’re the sentimental type like I am, options to have the edited printed document delivered to you directly can be arranged, allowing you to dispose of it personally or keep as a memento from your writing journey.
Okay, I’m interested, how much does it cost?
Here’s the deal. Editing is a crucial step required for all published writing, and it takes time to do it properly. I also know first-hand how expensive it can be to get a project off the ground. Even more so when you’re just starting out. Which is why I quote on a case-by-case basis factoring in the client’s budget, expectations, deadlines and a multitude of other variables.
I like to view the project as a whole, from start to finish, and whilst in principle I charge for every 1000 words, I like to settle on a figure that suits both of us. Your manuscript/document printing is “on the Lodge”, meaning no charge, and our consultation after the first pass of editing before I implement the changes is for my benefit as well as yours.
I see it as time invested to provide the best final product possible for both of us, so this is also included at no extra cost.
This means that the cost really does depend on the project. But, if you’re looking for a ballpark figure before reaching out, the price of editing your work will equate to:
£19.99/$23.99 per 1000 words.
